About Dave Morris ISA

In March 2019 I moved 14,000 pounds out of a Cash ISA to pay a builder and put it back in six weeks later. I had no idea I had just used up most of that year’s allowance twice. Nobody at the bank mentioned it. That mistake is why this site exists.

I write about ISAs and tax-free saving from my own experience of using them for over twenty years, first as a saver, then helping family and friends untangle theirs. I hold Cash, Stocks and Shares and a Lifetime ISA myself, and I have made most of the errors you can make with each.

Every article here works the numbers through in pounds. Not “consider the impact of fees” but “1 per cent on 40,000 pounds is 400 pounds this year and roughly 11,000 pounds over twenty”. Where I have a view I give it, and where I got something wrong I say so.

What you will find: how the annual allowance really works, transfers versus withdrawals, flexible ISAs and who honours them, Lifetime ISA rules and penalties, what platform fees cost over time, and the Cash versus Stocks and Shares question that most people are asking in the wrong order.

Dave Morris ISA is an independent UK publication. Nothing here is personal financial advice. It is one saver’s working, shown in full, so you can do your own.
